Beyond Hope

I love a good sandwich. Whether it is a good hamburger cooked over an open flame or fried bologna sandwich served with a hot bowl of soup. One of my favorites is a buttered sub bun with Blackforest Ham and Pepperoni topped with provolone cheese roasted in the oven until the cheese is just starting to brown. Put on some lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo… I can almost taste it now.

You can also find a good sandwich in the fifth chapter of Mark. Mark takes the story of Jairus and sandwiches another story about the woman who approached Jesus among the throngs of people. Coincidence? I don’t think so. The two stories work together to give us insight to who God is and what he is like. Read more »

Nothing Hits as Hard

The Twenty-First Time

From the moment I heard “The Twenty-First Time” I knew it would be one of my favorites.  It has a great acoustic guitar sound and the message will challenge anyone who listens.  This is a song that can change how we view people we pass by in our busy lives. It also has the ability to make us very uncomfortable. Here is what the artist have to say about the song.

“‘The Twenty-First Time’ is a song inspired by my wife, Micah, who for our entire marriage has been a true picture of compassion in my life,” says Monk. “Anytime she sees someone in need, she wants to stop and help. She’ll take food to the park to see if she can find anyone homeless or hungry, when I’m the guy who says, ‘We don’t have time.’ This song grew out of being challenged by her example, her spirit, her compassion.”

“As the song began to develop,” Neagle says, “I felt a tug on my heart that grew in its intensity. I’ve always known that our duty, our service, is to represent Christ to the world, but I’ve always kind of been ‘on the fence’ as to how we’re to do that. With ‘The Twenty-First Time,’ that revelation finally sunk in. To feed the hungry and give to the needy, that’s where it starts.”
